I don't know where Yaya got this impression that "important" is a bad word.
Lei was trying to help with Yaya's hair because of my painful wrist. Yaya ran out of the bathroom and asked me excitedly
---mommy, do you think I did a good job? I put one hair clip on all by my self, and daddy put the other one on.
--let me see. Which one was by you?
--This one. (She pointed to it)
--Yeah, pretty good try.
--what does that mean?
--I mean the place you put your clip is very important.
--No! Noooo...
Suddenly her eyes were filled with tears.
--No, It is not important. Why do you say it is important?
--Hey Yaya, "important" mean you put the clip in the right spot to help you hair stay in place, it is a good word..(i tried very hard to explain)
--no, it is not. It is a bad word.....
She cried.
Couple of days later, when I happened to need to use "important" in my comment again about her art work, intead of saying it, I asked her "Yaya, tell mommy, what do you think "important' means?"
"I don't kn0w, but it is a bad word."
So, I stayed away from that word for that time.
