At the age of 3, it is a time for the language capability of kids to dramatically improve, i guess, at least for Yaya. We worried in the first two years that her English was never as good as Chinese. Then when we went back to China, we found amazingly that her Chinese vocabulary was even increased over such a short period. Upon coming back, it seemed that she had forgotten almost all of her English. But it has only been over 2 months ever since the new school starts, and she basically decides to speak English as often as possible. Whenever i observe her reading to herself, or doing some self-play, it is alway English that she chooses to use. Finnally it reached a stage where we can not let this go on anymore. Yesterday, after discussing this with Yaya, we set up a new rule in the house, "no English in the house, those who speak English deserve a spanking on their bottom". It was set up only a couple of hours before she went to bed, but we kept having English words heard in the house. Not only yaya, it is us, the adults who also seemed to use English words very frequently in our daily life without even noticing it. ----It is definitely not only the kid herself needed to be reminded to hold on to her second languge, obviously, we, as parents, if we really hope our kids can stick to Chinese, need to put our efforts into our spoken language too.
