I was feeling a little bit uncomfortable after hearing the two's teacher telling me about some stories of Peter during the day.
--Peter had an accident today. He was bobbing and shaking his head while laying on his tummy on the floor and accidently he hit his chin on the ground and bit his lip.
--Oh, was it bad?
--no, it was just a little.
--OK. (I felt relieved.) That happens.
--But this morning, he was, you know, all "mine, mine".. and we just put those who want to cry to the pillows, .. if you want to whine, you go and cry yourself..
--??(I became nervous again)
However, I decided to let it go for that moment, seeing my boy eager to be held up and go. But I know I could not have a peaceful mind if I don't understand what was really going on. The tone that teacher was using bothered me.
So, this morning, Nicole(Peter's own teacher in the toddler room) was there.
--Nicole, what happened yesterday? was Peter obsessed about something?
--??(she looked at me curiously)
--XXX told me yesterday at pick-up time that Peter was all "mine-mine" and...(I did not finish)
--Oh, oh, oh. You know Peter loves this book. (she showed me the "polar bear" book), and I believe Sarah(another teacher in the toddler room) has talked you about this. Peter just got upset everytime he saw another kid has it. Therefore, he yelled "mine, mine..", which, you know, is quite normal for this age.
(I nodded, yes, Sarah told me about Peter's obssession for that book and she did reassured me that it was normal for this age, which we are all aware of.)
--Then, if he could not get the book, he would do the "kicking" thing, on the floor. But in order to avoid him hurt himself, we usually move him to the pillow area, so that he does not hurt himself...
At this point, I began to understand the whole thing. Honestly, I support the teachers ignoring Peter if his request is not reasonable. Being told that he was put in an area safer for his body let me feel much better.
