Trick or treat

The kids really had a blast, even Peter, beyond our expectation, enjoyed going treat-o'-treating.

Xiaoyi took her son, Harry over, Hairong who also lives in the neighborhood, had her son, Eddie, and there was another little boy and his parents who moved in recently. Altogether, we had 5 kids, ages were 6, 4, 3.5, 2.5, 1.5, plus 5 adults, we formed a pretty big team. Starting at 5:30pm, Eddie and Yaya were the line leaders, they did a great job knocking, shouting"trick or treat" then picking candies, and yelling "thank you", "happy halloween". Harry(who dressed up like a tiger) was funny as he always has been, when someone said to him "you look adorable" he replied "I AM adorable". Peter, first had a hard time understanding what was really going on, whenever the hosts tried to put candies into his pumpkin bucket, he was whining because he thought they would take his bucket away. After 20 minutes or so, I guess he finally realized that not only they would never take his stuff away, people actually put stuff in his bucket. He soon slipped off my arms, holding his bucket, squeezed in each time and accepted his treat happily. As the bucket got heavier and heavier, Peter began to waddle, but still he refused any help.

The residents in these apartment buildings turned out to be very warm-hearted. Not only they gave out candies, some were standing in the walk way, greeting us and asked us to drop by their door, some even put small toys for the kids besides the candies. There was a young couple, who did not have candy available but opened their door for us as well. When being told they would give out money(quarters), Eddie(6-yr-old), who was the only one that knew what money can do, yelled "awesome!"

Overall, it was a hilarous and fun experience. Yaya did not show any shyness at all and went on trick-or-treating with Hairong until late even when mommy and Peter left for home. This morning, yaya told me "halloween is the funnest day in the whole year!"
