Stories about driving

This weekend, i was driving Yaya to Chinatown shopping. On the way, we passed an intersection and there was a long line of cars waiting across the street.

Yaya: Mommy, why these cars are not moving?
M: because they are waiting for the red light to turn green.
Yaya: Why?(She has stayed in the "why" period for a long time)
M: Because everyone needs to wait for green light when crossing an intersection.
Yaya: Why?
I knew there would be no end to the whys if i don't try to stop it.
M: No whys, that' s the way it is.
Yaya seemed to be content for a second, and then she said:" Just like bracelets are supposed to be on wrists while necklaces on necks, no why for this either, right?"
I was very much relieved and hopefully she really understands my reply.

Another time in the car, I was so impressed by Yaya's sharpness in observation and raising questions.
Yaya: Mommy, why don't you move the steer wheel at all?
M: Because i am not turning. I'm going staight. People only need to turn the steer wheel when they turn.
Yaya: Then how do you make the car move?
M: (Considering she is on the backseat and she is only 3)Do you notice that i am stepping on something with my foot? That makes it move.(I try to simplify it)
Just at that time, we stopped in front of a red light.
Yaya: But your foot is still stepping on something, why now we stop?
M:...
Later, i have to explain in detail about the brake and accelerator----see, never take for granted that kids are not as smart as you are.

When we were in China, Yaya had some questions about bus and taxi one day sitting on a bus with me.
Yaya: Mom, why we have to pay coins before we get on bus, but we only pay the taxi after we arrive at our destination?
M: I guess that's the different rules.
Yaya: When we take taxi, the driver always asks where we want to go, but why the bus driver never asks, still we can get where we want to go?
After i briefly explained about the stops for buses, Yaya seemed to understand it. She continued, "then i like to take bus more, because you don't have to tell, they already have the stop for you."
Haha, funny thoughts, funny kids.

Here's more happened the same day on that bus.
Yaya: Mommy, why we all lean forward when the bus stops?
M:......
I don't really know how to explain it to a kid of 3, so i guess my long explanation didn't really get through her little brain.
Yaya: Then why our body goes back when the bus starts?
M:...
Poor me, no idea how to make this easy for her.
Yaya: why people goes up and down while standing in a bus, but we never feel anything in our car?
M: Becasue our car is small and it is more stable.
Yaya: then why...?
M: Ok, you know what? You will learn a lot about this when you grow up. Now we need to get ready to go.
Finally, i escaped.
